Carlos Beltran, Leon Lee among other fired Mets due to scandals

Jared Porter is the latest Met to have alleged impropriety surface shortly after being hired. Here are some previous examples — all of which resulted in the person’s Mets tenure ending:

Carlos Beltran, 2020. After the Mets hired Beltran as their manager, the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal emerged, with Beltran named in MLB’s report as a participant. The Mets parted ways with Beltran, replacing him with Luis Rojas.

Leon Lee, 2004. The Mets had hired Lee to be their new Brooklyn Cyclones manager, but he resigned before managing a single game when he was arrested for two counts of exposure of a sexual organ. Lee denied the charges.

Bill Singer, 2003. Hired as one of Mets GM Jim Duquette’s “super scouts,” Singer had an encounter with future Marlins general manager Kim Ng at that year’s winter meetings in which he, as The Post’s Ken Davidoff put it, “drunkenly confronted her with racist and sexist rage.” Singer was fired.
